If so, what did you think of it?

Odd. My sister loved it (and she is much smarter and well-read than I am) and thought it was really sad. I thought he was in a coma. It makes you think about nursery stories though, doesn't it? I was trying not to giggle when DSs teacher said to him 'and we are reading Goldilocks tomorrow' (did she 'run all the way home' or 'live happily ever after'?). And as for Little Red Riding Hood...

I thought it was ok, bit heavy-handed.

I like his writing style though.

I thought it was good, but a bit too violent for me - all of the creepy elements I found really very creepy. It was a bit like Angela Carter only without the feminist politics.

Does he write horror novels "normally"?

I really liked it.

I am a big fan of his "normal" novels, and I thought this one was enjoyable and just different enough to mark a change for him.

Dd1 read it as well and found it good, and memorable (which is a bonus, knowing her )

I bought it for the lovely cover and was really disappointed with it. I thought it had a lot of potential but, like NQC, thought it was all a bit heavy-handed and lacked subtlety. To be honest, it made so little impression that I can't really remember very much about it.
