i have manged to avoid reading pride and prejudice so far.......

but now think i really should as i have just started watching the new show, lost in austen. is it really that good? otherwise why would they make so many films telly shows etc? i just hate reading books that eveyone else says are wow, only toi find my expectations have been raised so high, they are impossile to fulfill...
aalso, i hated withering heights, thought both emma, and sense and sensibility were boooring.

I am the same as you when it come to reading books everyone else loves; I avoid it whenever possible. But I have to say I did really enjoy P and P. I found it loads better than Emma and S and S.

Or you could just watch the BBC adaptation with Colin Firth in. It is very closely tied to the book so will give you a fair idea what it's like if you really don't want to read it.

P&P is marvellous. Better than all the books you've mentioned.

Brontes are dire imo.

I love the book. It is my "comfort" book - the one you can pick up and read, turn to any page and read a bit if nothing else new to read, etc. I read it first years ago, way before the BBC P&P drama, along with the other Auston books. I love them all.

However you either love them or not. I suspect if you don;t like Emma or S&S you won;t particularly enjoy P&P either.

Read it; it's brilliant. And the Colin Firth version is actually not that good imho but yes, it does stick to the plot and not veer too much into stupidity in the way that, for example, the recent "Mansfield Park" televised thing did.

They adapt p&p so much because it really is that good. I read it a couple of times a year and never get sick of it.

emma was a very well constructed book, lovely character development etc, but the actual plot was incredibly boring, imo at the time, read it about fifteen years ago.
okie, i shall go visit the library. see if htey have a copy.
