not embarassing..is it the themes (building) or historical saga you liked.. if history try katherine by anya seton or for rubbishy historic romance anything by elizabeth chadwick (although the greatest knigth and the scarlet lion prob best)

I read tat, many years ago (the pillars of th earth one) and at that time also read Marion Zimmer Bradley Books...the Avalon ones
might be something you also would enjoy!

oh also read a few Noah Gordon novels back then....they are good!
