Virgil's Aeneid

[Moddingcrowd]

Is there any consensus of the best translation of this, for someone with little classical knowledge?

Looking for something that reads well in English, rather than strict accuracy. Don't mind older translations if they're easy to get hold of.

Thanks x

Are you looking for a prose or verse translation? David West's prose translation is readable and faithful to the text. Fitzgerald is the famous rather grand and 'old fashioned' poetic translation, but there's a new one, out last year, by McGill & Wright. It's sitting on my shelf waiting to be read!

Edited to add Fagles is a very readable blank verse translation.

I'd go on Amazon and download samples on the Kindle app - see which grabs you.
