Spooky /halloween-ish book club recommendations pls

I am getting very ahead of myself, but thought it worth asking for ideas now. I’ve just been told I have the pick for the October 2027 book for my book club.

Im looking for something spooky or seasonal, ideally around 400 pages, I’ve already been told the september book is going to be something of a doorstop, so don’t want to inflict two super long books on the run.

Anyone read any good spooky books recently they’d recommend?

Dark Matter by Michelle Paver and The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters are both great and creepy reads.

Go old school Steven King - maybe Carrie, Misery or Pet Semetary. Or James Herbert?

Shirley Jackson: Haunting of Hill House and We’ve Always Lived in the Castle

Yep! We’ve got a big book club, we’ve just been sorting out who’s getting next years ones so we can get Jan/feb confirmed/bought, and I got October 27. Sept 27 person already has picked their book and it’s a long one so I think if I go long, I’ll get sulky people.
