Probably very late to the game but just wanted to say oh my goodness how brilliant is Gillian Flynn? I'm half way through Dark Place read by Lorelei King...absolutely loving it.
As a fan of Donna Tartt I'd say her prose is equal..

I gave up on Gillian Flynn after reading Sharp Objects. I hated Gone Girl, but gave her another chance.

So but did you like Dark Place?

I haven't read Dark Place. As I said, I read Gone Girl and didn't enjoy it, but I gave her another chance and read Sharp Objects. I wouldn't pick up another of her books.

Oh well...horses for courses.

Of course audio books are allowed. I’m glad you’ve found one you’ve enjoyed. I read Gone Girl ages ago and it was ok, but I haven’t been impressed enough to buy any of her other books yet.

I am going to read sharp objects on holiday - I loved gone girl. Did you see the sharp objects tv series?

I love audio books, kindles and paperbacks. My dog walking would be very boring without a book to listen to (currently listening to the full cast Harry potters)

I didn't like the only Gillian Flynn novel I read (Gone Girl), but I like the idea of discussing audiobooks here as well as book books.

I recently listened to Jeremy Irons' reading of Lolita on Spotify. It was so brilliant. The language is so startling, with such an emphasis on the sound of words, that it suited a spoken medium. And Jeremy Irons read it so excellently.

I am so pleased to have experienced Lolita at last, instead of just reading/hearing about it.

I absolutely love an audiobook! I prefer multi narrators tho. Recent ones I've listened

the bee sting
broken country
skin deep
the picture of dorian gray

more as well but these are stand out ones. I don't normally listen to classics or booker books but made an exception here 😂

when I'm walking with the dog and listening to a good book it is just the nicest thing - even if it's pouring with rain and cold.

I like an audio book but they take me forever to get through. I like one on a long drive

SmallIslandLife · 21/08/2026 13:38

I love audio books and listen to loads. My eyesight isn't great any more and audiobooks allow me still to enjoy books.

BendyDickCumbInMySnatch · 21/08/2026 21:00

which ones? @SmallIslandLife @HeinousBeaker

I love Gillian Flynn, Dark Place was great. I think her books felt so much more atmospheric in audio form. The accents are great. Gone Girl worked so well in due to diary narration.
