Recommend me a book set in Italy please

Going to Lake Garda in a few weeks and would like to read something set there.
Any ideas?

Anything by Michele Lovric or Sarah Dunant

Definitely The Enchanted April, despite its age, still funny and charming and a beautiful evocation of a certain romantic view of Italy.

Last train from Liguria by Christine Dwyer Hickey. Absolutely amazing. You can smell and feel Italy reading it!!

The venice hotel by Tess Woods. Set in venice so fits your criteria and a great read

Just looked - and no I haven't, as I see it was only published in 2011. Way back in the '60s I did read some of her adventure/thriller novels aimed at older teenage girls, but found them fairly unmemorable.

But somehow managed to miss Drina Goes on Tour - I always thought Switzerland was the last.

No I haven’t - thank you for the tip, i shall look forwards to that!

Last night I ordered Enchanted in April as a friend had recommended it me only last week.
I’ve also had the Rachel Joyce book in my basket for a long time!

Mary Doria Russell, A Thread Of Grace - resistance in the north of Italy during WWII. Not a cosy read but amazing.

Omg. I LOVED Drina in Italy!

I loved all the Drina books. Though I thought her grandmother was very mean, only buying her one good dress a year 😂

Im in Verona at the moment and will 2 days at Garda as such Im reading Fair Rosaline the other side to romeo and Juliette.

I think Drina did all right, especially compared to Rose. She always had plenty of clothes for all the travelling she did.

Drina goes on Tour is a favourite of mine. There is also Drina Ballerina which was published much later and finishes the series.

I'm far less keen on her thriller/spy/romance novels but love the family and school books. Proper comfort reads.
