Very vague I'm afraid
...
I read it as a child in the early 1980s.
A group of friends growing up in post war London.
I think the girl was called Bella?
The mother had a secret ginger parking cake recipe?
I think it was it was about their adventures.

I think you mean ginger parkin.

Gemini suggests "The Baker Street Choir" (also known as "The Baker Street Choir Boys") series by Christine Pullein-Thompson

But that seems to be a hallucination, sorry!

Yes, I think that author was a lot earlier?

The Family From One End Street.

Definitely not the Family from One End Street - there was no Bella, they lived in Otwell and it wasn't post war! Really lovely book though.

Could it have been Liverpool rather than London? Mabel Esther Allen wrote two series which could fit. Wood Street was one, and I Pine Street the other. I can't remember the children's names though...

I thought all her books were about ponies?

Yes, it was a hallucination, @OttersOnAPlane, I was silly not to check before posting.

I loved that series! “Carnation Lily, Lily Rose” as to how eldest got her name, and the trips Kate went on to the countryside!

Join the abebooks UK BookSleuth forum. Do follow their rules about thread titles though. They don’t like ‘looking for book’. Include ‘London Bella ginger parkin recipe’. Someone will know it!

Raven08 · 10/05/2026 19:56

I had a sudden epiphany

It was called Harold, Bella, Jammy & me, (and not based in London)

Thanks for the ideas though ☺️
