Can anyone reccommend a "Raising Girls" type book?

Raising Girls gets slated on the amazon reviews so I wonder if anyone has read anything good about raising girls?

genuinely i wouldn't advocate buying a book based on specific gender advice. some girls have some traits but not necessarily all. it is reductionist to ascribe certain traits/approaches based on gender.buy a good general book eg toddler taming

I loved toddler taming Scottish Mummy. What a great book with lots of sensible advice presented in a straightforward manner. I used it religiously for the bedtime routine when it faltered slightly.

I hated the author of raising boys (Stephen Biddulph?). The guy was o.k. in some parts, but he spouted a good deal of rubbish about why mums shouldn't go back to work. I'm a SAHM but I still thought he talked a lot of cod about the subject.

Although I couldn't aspire to the literary savvy of Scottishmummy, I agree that gender advice is crap (sorry but I'm not sure what reductionist is...just off to go check now

Nothing to add except that when my DD was tiny I had a quick browse of Raising Girls in smiths. There was a whole chapter about girls special relationships with ponies. Eh? Weird. Slapped that one straight back down on the shelf.
