I'm still trying to get my head round this.

here

I can't get past:
A poet with a cleaner.

A poet with a cleaner ?!

Most poets I know would barely have the income to stretch to a bottle of Flash, let alone a farkin' cleaner.

I won't be buying her book.

Poets I know are more likely to be cleaners than have 'em...

ah, she's her cleaner and NANNY

she has a family and a husband and a second income.

not so surprising.

not all poets are starving in garrets and living a life of solitude

mrshedge · 24/06/2008 22:50

Ooh must look this up as someone with a Kosovan cleaner who has a fascinating life story (the cleaner not me).

mrshedge · 24/06/2008 22:53

Very odd that they met in the street and Clancy offered her a job which involved looking after her kids there and then.

nosferatu · 23/03/2010 13:13

maybe a poet has a rich husband.

Iklboo · 23/03/2010 13:17

I got sent the book when MNers were asked to contribute to a BBC radio programme ealrier this month/last month. She's written novels as well as poetry and freelances stuff as well I think. I'm enjoying the book more than I thought I would.

Iklboo · 23/03/2010 13:18

Gust - the cleaner is the nanny as well BTW

bronze · 23/03/2010 13:20

anyone read it? Is it good?
Knowing quite a few kosovans this interests me

bronze · 23/03/2010 13:22

actually I think its Kosovars ?

krissi · 12/07/2010 10:35

She's married to a guy who tutored me at university, Matthew Reynolds. Both quite "old money", I think. The book is based in Oxford not London - Kate changed the location to protect Antigona's identity.

elkiedee · 21/09/2010 11:52

I thought Antigona and Me was well worth reading. I think she took on childcare after they'd got to know each other - she started off doing cleaning for her and Clanchy also also got her lots of work for friends, she wasn't full time.

Most poets, male and female, have another job.
