Is there a group for a spicy read?

I’m not sure Mumsnet approves of spicy books. Which authors do you like?

TillyVanilla · 11/12/2025 10:12

It would be a shame if not allowed.

I would certainly recommend tge following:
M P Blackthorne
Cammie Contie
Lucinda Lee

My own!

God how I hate the word spice, just say porn or erotica.

I totally agree. It makes me cringe. It just sounds so juvenile.

CurlewKate · 11/12/2025 17:57

I think fanfic is fun for erotica. Being entertained by your favorite characters from books and tv shows in various combinations is entertaining!

It became an acceptable label to describe naughty books on Amazon.

I’m joining for recommendations!

Yes, I am aware of that.
I wasn't suggesting I don't understand the term spicy, just that I dislike it because I find the idea of "spice ratings" juvenile and twee.

Might be an age thing to some degree; I'm old school, I grew up on the erotic feminism of the 1970s and now I've come full circle with Faery Porn.

I may be in my crone years, but still here for the recommendations.

I've not read any yet, but as a huge fan of erotica and Tinkerbell, maybe I should try my hand at writing some...

You really should!
I used to write fanfic stuff years ago (before it was even known as fanfic), it kept me entertained for years. Some of it went on and on and became so elaborate that it even used to feature in my dreams.
Sorry for derailing your thread, but yes, you should try writing. Reading widely will serve you well in the meantime though.

You are not at all derailing; it's all good conversation. Did you publish it at all?

I do write actually, and I'm slowly getting better, (I hope). I have eleven books on Amazon. I decided to write because I couldn't find what I wanted to read, but I have since discovered so many talented people.

It's hard work self-publishing, but even harder self-promoting!

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/12/2025 14:38

You have 11 books on Amazon? Wow! And how's it going?

I didn't publish, no, because I'm talking pre-internet even. I haven't written for many years because life got in the way, now I think I'm past it!

Oh, you should, if it's in you, go for it. - I wish I had started sooner.

I have never regretted it, though I am revising the earlier books! - I seem to be full of naughty stories. It satisfies an itch that definitely needed scratching.

There are 900 copies out there and 100,000 page reads, so it's beginning to build. I have four more circling waiting to land.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/12/2025 15:20

That's mightily impressive!

I don't suppose it's appropriate to ask you to post a link here though... you might have privacy concerns.

It's the new saucy. Both sound stupid.
