I'm trying to remember the title/author of a book I read in the last few years and its driving me absolutely potty!!

A troublesome teenage girl gets sent to Newcastle or Gateshead (certainly up North) to stay with a vague relative (possibly her mother's partners son? She gets involved in the folk music scene and ends up deciding to stay and study in Newcastle - maybe.

I was thinking Freya North but apparently not. But maybe in her style.

Fairly sure I read it fairly recently and am amazed I haven't got it on my kindle - but apparently not. Or I have but as I don't know the title or the author I can't find it.

Can anyone help please?

If you ever had it on your kindle you can go to your content and devices page I think it is on your Amazon account, they have a list of every book that was ever on it🤞

Try ChatGPT, really good for finding movies and books when you can’t remember the titles. Good luck 🤞

I tried asking chat gpt but don't think it gave a good answer

Ooh it sounds really familiar to me and I’ve just searched my reading list from the local library but nothing stood out.

In the book I’m thinking of the Sage building in Newcastle was visible from the male characters flat and either he or the girl were musicians, possibly violin? Also had a parent recently died and she had discovered the male was a half sibling or uncle?

Although it's also quite good at making things up

That sounds like The Other Family by Joanna Trollope. The father of a family dies and his widow and kids discover he had a previous relationship and an older son up North - hence Gateshead.

Yes!!!!! That’s it!!!! And I DO have it on my kindle - but didn’t even consider it might be a Joanna Trollope.
Thank you so much - If anyone wants me I’m busy reading today 😊

It’s not - but I did think it might be. Freya North (which it isn’t). But that is a lovely book - it’s on my reread list now.
tbf I love pretty much everything she writes 😊

Me too. It’s genius at some things (job applications for example 😂) but on this occasion no help at all.

Joanna Trollope has just died. I was watching this thread as the book sounded interesting. What a shame 😞
