A friend just out me into this. Been listening to them on Audible as it's only 99p for 3 months at the moment.

I really didn’t like it. The first couple of books are ok but after that it’s just not good.

I much preferred the Throne of Glass series by the same author.

4th one is definitely the worst, but it picks up again in the 5th. I enjoyed them as easy to get into books.

Agree I stopped reading ACOTAR after 3 - these long romantasies often seem to struggle after book 3, should be more trilogies…loved throne of glass but that could’ve been a book shorter.

any other recommendations in the same genre?

Throne of Glass series is brilliant. Also the Fourth Wing series.

Yes although the latest fourth wing again is classic late middle filler - yarros is great though, an amazing woman.

I really didn’t like ACOTAR until about three-quarters of the way through the first book (hello, Rhysand 😈) but then became utterly obsessed. Books two and three are my favourites.

I found the first two Throne Of Glass books really bland but persevered and then loved the rest of the series. I also enjoyed Crescent City eventually but it took me ages to get into it and I was much more invested in the supporting characters than I was in the leads. Again, the first one felt like the weakest.

I’m currently reading Jay Kristoff’s Empire Of The Vampire trilogy and I adore it (don’t be put off by the naff title). Very dark and violent and gothic - I’m usually more of a grimdark girl than a romantasy one, and I like writers like Jay Kristoff, Joe Abercrombie and KJ Parker, so ACOTAR was actually an anomaly for me. I didn’t like Fourth Wing at all.

ACOTAR was my gateway to romantasy, I loved it! Read so many better books since then though!
