What do you do with them?
Shall I try it again as reviews were good? Might just be the mood I'm in?
It's Nicole Krauss, can't remember title at mo! It's not so bad that I want to bin it, but jsut not engaging me really...
Gonna try another few pages and then green metropolis it/charity it..

Set it free.

probablyaslytherin · 04/06/2008 23:40

I donate them to the local library.

I wait a few months then try it again. This has yeiled a few good reads. Sometimes you just need to be in the mood, as you say.

Is it The History of Love? I thought that was quite uneven myself - there are sections in the middle that are just incredibly beautiful, but it takes so long to draw all its threads together, and it's sometimes hard to figure out what's going on.

I'd definitely give it one more go before getting rid of it but as AnyFuleKno says, have a break first.

yogabird · 07/06/2008 22:33

no no no i hated the history of love, but pressed on and now realise it was a complete waste of time since i cared nothing at all for any character in it but someone had said, 'it's great' so...
Book club just had The Poisonwood bible and i hated that too. Am currently struggling to get gripped by Atonement and getting thoroughly pissed off with the idea of reading anything else that i haven't selected myself

ScottishMummy · 07/06/2008 22:38

time traveller's wife - everyone raved i hated

BeachBunni · 07/06/2008 22:56

I always find that more of the classic books I find hard to get into. Sometimes it takes me about 3 attempts but once I do get into it and finish it - it just blows my mind away. Something that a lot of popular fiction doesn't do

cyteen · 11/06/2008 18:57

The God of Small Things. Was this month's bookclub choice - I thought it was whimsical, monotonous shite and didn't make it past chapter two.

Jenbot · 16/06/2008 12:55

Well, I persevered with the God of Small Things and I think you had the right idea cyteen!

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 16/06/2008 13:57

I "release" it in bookcrossing.
A friend has told me about "read it swap it
"
www.readitswapit.co.uk/TheLibrary.aspx

i'll try that next.
