when they put the first chapter of the next book at the end of the book you are reading.

You think you've got loads of the book to go then all of a sudden it's finished.

Tis tres annoying.

And.... when they put the entire storyline on the back of the book. I don't mind "how will she cope with the loss of her lover" if he dies in the first chapter, but when he dies three pages before the end, tis mucho crapola.

That was it. Thank you for reading.

lol.....I feel your pain however.

tis mucho annoying, I agree!!!

which book by any chance, as I now know to avoid it...

Oh yes! I hate that too.

I hate finishing a good book, but it's even worse to be cheated by an extra 2mm of pages that you thought were more story.

Bit like premature ejaculation!

It annoys me when there's loads of descriptive text 'setting the scene' just when you're getting to the juicy bit. I don't give a flying f*ck what shade of green the spring leaves where or how the birds where singing, I just want to know WHAT HE SAID TO HER!!

psychomum - this one was a PJ Tracy one, but they do it quite a lot. I was all settled down ready to finish the book before nursery and now it's all gone!

I had to come on mumsnet instead

overmydeadbody - it's something my writing students do all the time. I call it "leading the reader by the hand", and I try to discourage it as much as possible! It can still be seen in much published fiction, though!

Agreed with OP. It's pathetic. Publisher and writer together convinced that you wouldn't buy the guy's next book if they don't lure you in with a bit of the story.
