I have read Tom Marcus I spy books based on his time MI5, which was interesting but looking for similar books.

This probably isn't what you had in mind but it made me think of "The Spy Wore Red." There have been quite a few newer ones in the last couple of years, though. Your library could probably help you track them down.

Yes, there's some I really enjoyed. The author's names is Charles Cumming. Clever spy novels and the author is ex-MI6. Box 88 and Judas 62. Also The Spanish Game, although the first two were a bit better.

’The Peacock and the Sparrow’ by I. S. Berry and ’Nine Lives: My Time As MI6's Top Spy Inside al-Qaeda’ by Aimen Dean.

Undercover by Rob Evans and Paul Lewis about the police who went undercover to spy on environmental activists. The cases have had some publicity recently as the women the police had relationships with are still trying to get some justice and accountability.

What about something by or about Oleg Gordievsky who just died a few weeks ago?
