Released September 2025!!

This has prompted me to reserve from my library. I'm fourteenth on the list! I will wait for it as I hate buying hardback copies. I normally wait for the paperback copy but this has been far too long to wait even longer!

Whoop!

RockaLock
I have started my reread/relisten! 😉☺️

I can’t believe that after so many years of being absorbed in these stories I am still just as engaged as on my first encounter with Robin and Strike.

IamEarthymama · 20/07/2025 13:33

RobinEllacotStrike sorry I didn’t see that you too are a rereader and a “read the physical book, then listen on Audible” person!
I’m so excited!!

Miner4aHeartofGold · 20/07/2025 13:56

@earthymama is there a new Rivers of London book out??? Or a different novel by Ben A? Exciting either way - thanks for the heads up

and listed to the SEFiles reread podcast.

I only found these books around the time Troubled Blood was released & I didn't discover the audiobooks until even later - now I'm properly obsessed. Currently relistening to the whole series again in advance of THM, though I missed out "Career of Evil" (as the criminals are too awful in that one) - I'm mid Troubled Blood.

I also hate buying hardbacks but may get the Kindle version.

Lynz301 · 21/07/2025 18:03

I’ve pre-ordered the kindle version - cannot wait!! There’s a few books coming out at similar times - the new Steve Cavanagh is on 31st July, the new Janice Hallett on 4th Sept, the new Robert Galbraith on 9th Sept and the new Mick Herron on 11th September!

I am so looking forward to September, I am such as late joiner to Strike through that I’ve still got Ink Black Heart to read and watch (plus some of Troubled Blood to watch) between now and then!

No spoilers please as I’ve just started it, but what were everyone’s thoughts on IBH?

I liked it less than the others. But I read on kindle, and the formatting of all the messages etc was a bit off, and there is so much of that that it made it harder to read.

Yes I’m reading on kindle too and the formatting is very odd. I’m getting into it, just a bit slower than the others I think.

the80sweregreat · 23/07/2025 21:20

I didn’t like the Ink black heart much and the only one I didn’t reread. Couldn’t get on with the kindle and the chat rooms. Maybe because I’m not a gamer ?
I just found it hard to get my head around.

mylovedoesitgood · 23/07/2025 21:23

The Ink Black Heart has too many characters, was self indulgent and was way overlong. The Running Grave also could have done with being a few hundred pages shorter. I’m pleased to see that this new one is less than 1,000 pages, her shortest book since Lethal White. Maybe she has a new editor.

The chat room format was awful on the Kindle, I agree.
This is slightly making me hold back on getting the new one on Kindle.

the80sweregreat · 23/07/2025 21:26

I am looking forwards to the new book.
Cuckoo and Troubled blood are my favorite ones so far.

SolidarityCone · 24/07/2025 05:21

@mylovedoesitgood pipe down, more is more with Strellacott! I could read 2000 pages of them! 🤣

I always recommend to people that don’t like the chat rooms in IBH to just skip them, the story reads fine without reading them.

Yeah maybe I’ll try to skip the chats - wouldn’t want to miss any clues, was my only worry! 😀

RaspberryRipple2 · 24/07/2025 08:04

It’s 912 pages, pretty much exactly the same as TB and TRG (10-30 pages shorter so don’t think we’ll notice anything 😂)

No, they were much longer.

RaspberryRipple2 · 24/07/2025 08:37

I checked my copies - hard backed bought on day of release? So pretty sure it’s a similar length. Only IBH is longer than 1k pages.

Lins77 · 24/07/2025 08:49

Just checked kindle preorder price -£17.99! That's a bit steep.

NameChangedOfc · 24/07/2025 10:06

I've been reading this thread and may have found the solution for my despairing wait untill september: the audiobooks. Now, I am not a fan in general, but if I've already read them, it's the ideal! I love the series, but I stopped watching it because it messed with my imagination; I don't have time to re-read the books now, as much as I'd want to. So audiobooks it is!

My main problem is that I binge-read them: so I'll have wait more than a year for the new one, and I'll finish it in two days. I wish I could pace myself!

Also: what is that about a Robin pregnancy???

upinaballoon · 24/07/2025 10:32

I'm guessing that 'a Robin pregnancy' is mere speculation. I don't know what will happen with Robin and Ryan but I hope very much that JKR doesn't contrive a pregnancy or for Ryan to suddenly become a nasty type, in order to push the story along.

the80sweregreat · 24/07/2025 13:00

Ryan is already a bit dodgy I think ! His bound to kick off. Hopefully someone will see him off ( shanker !)
That would be funny though.

Completely agree: there are already enough "obstacles" a relationship between them would have to overcome. Mainly his mommy issues*, but also her traumas. It would be interesting to see the beginnings and evolution of a realistic romantic relationship, for once. Without adding too much more drama. A pregnancy, in the context of a budding relationship between them (Strike being the father, I mean), would maybe be interesting!

*ETA: I should have said "his traumas" instead. I don't want to minimise his struggles, poor thing.
