Looking for spicy historical romance with a decent plot!

As the title says, looking for a minimum of three peppers on the spice rating 👀 BUT I need a well written book that has a captivating plot. I went down a rabbit hole of reading some very poorly written e books that were pretty spicy but just written so badly I couldn't deal with it.
Ideally historical romance but up for a bit of fantasy if you have any great ones to recommend!

Have you read Forever Amber?

Some of Sylvia Day's early books are historical - pirate stuff. More erotica than romance, though.

Well I have been enjoying The Wallflowers set by Lisa Kleypas. A group of four women (two American who are looking for a husband. Lillian (one American), her book made me laugh when they were playing rounds and she had took her dress off and was showing her bloomers and a man came across her. I cannot remember which book is hers but not the Winter one. That is Evie who is a real wallflower until she is doomed to marry her awful cousin and runs to a rake for safety and agrees to marry . She has a fortune, he has a title.

There is some sex and fumblings but . I just enjoyed the books anyway and this is my second reading of them.

Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3)

Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1)

Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers, #4)

It Happened One Autumn (Wallflowers, #2)

Thank you all will check these out ☺️

@Deathraystare I've heard of those, similar to an e book series I read called League of Rogues which I enjoyed so think I will like those

I really enjoy Eloisa James's books. Both the Essex Sisters series and the Wildes of Lindow Castle are worth having a look at.

Also, have you read anything by Loretta Chase? Lord of Scoundrels is really good - very much a modern classic with spice, well written characters and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Fingersmith

But it may not be the spice you're expecting.

Very good though
