A book finding one…

I’m new to this part of Mumsnet. I’m not sure if this is an annoying request but would appreciate help.

I have a memory of a fiction book in similar vein to Gulliver’s Travels where the protagonist meets a group of people (mariners/seafarers from memory). Some of this group suffer a terrible fate (falling overboard, attacked by sea monsters or something like that). The next day the protagonist is bewildered to find the remaining group cheerful with absolutely no recollection of the incident or the people who’ve been lost - saying something like “What do you mean? We are all here. We’re all okay”

For various reasons, this scene is important and poignant for me at the moment. Something is pushing me to find the source and I’ve been googling for ages. Genuinely thought it was Gulliver’s travels but now I’m really not sure. Any help or pointers will be very gratefully received. Cheers!

Is it a children's or an adults book? It sounds a bit similar to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, one of the Narnia books.

Many thanks for your answer. Yes, I think it was a children’s book. Had a look through the synopsis for Voyage of the Dawn Treader and couldn’t find it in there but sounds like right direction
I just always had in my head that it was in quite a classic book (and thought, if so, someone here might be able to answer easily) but maybe it was something a bit more obscure that just stuck with me for some reason! I’ll keep looking and post back if I find any leads!

The Narnia suggestion is good - there is something similar in the stable scene in The Last Battle as well as the Dufflepuds in Dawn Treader - but could it possibly be Candide, with Pangloss wittering on about the best of all possible worlds after shipwrecks, earthquakes etc?
