Has anyone else read this?
I picked it up at random from the library shelves, and I'd never heard of the author.
It's a fantastic read, set in the 19th century in the USA. A Southern branch of a family stay for the summer with their distant relatives in the North.
Perceptive and beautiful.

No but thanks for the recommendation. I
Am always looking for book ideas. I read The Hike by Lucy Clarke a few months ago - I can recommend that in return. It was a bit slow to start but was gripping after that.

I have read 'So Long, See You Tomorrow' by Maxwell, it was amazing, have kept meaning to check out more of his work but very little time for reading at the moment sadly.

Thank you Dizzy, I'll try it

I haven’t read this but I adored another of his novels, They Came Like Swallows, about the Spanish flu. Beautiful and heartbreaking

I love Maxwell’s writing. I’ve read all the books mentioned and can also recommend The Chateau.

I finished Time will Darken it last night. I have another book waiting (a thriller by Jane harper) but I just can't make the jump.
How come I've not heard of this author? I'm pretty well read and I've not heard of him before.

I read most of this author’s books a few years back because someone recommended him. I agree - he’s brilliant in a quiet, melancholy way. Should be better known.
