Which kindle?

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right board for this. My old kindle (from about 2016) is slowly giving up the ghost. I'll replace it but can't decide whether to go with the basic at £94.99 or the paper white at approx £150.
Grateful for experiences/thoughts. Thank you

Ive got the paper white although it's a few years old now. I've never had a non paper white one to compare but I love the paper white!

I had the original K8ndle, loved it, maybe a bit clunky by today's standards, but it worked, and was easy to navigate. Then they stopped allowing you to download to it, grrrr.
I now have the 10th generation touch screen (unwillingly). I bloody hate it. It's difficult to navigate, too many screens, and sooo sensitive you only have to look at it for it to leap two or three pages , or even a chapter, ahead.
I'm not a dinosaur, but I wish they would let me use the old one, it was so simple.

I like the paperwhite.

If you return your old kindle for recycling - you get a voucher for 20% off a new one (whichever one you choose)

I’ve got the basic and love it. At the time, I researched the basic and paperwhite and decided that the extra cost for the paperwhite wasn’t worth it to me. Of course you may decide differently.

It’s just as well I’m not in the market for a new kindle now, as I would be sorely tempted by the colour kindle.

Another online article I read earlier discussing this dilemma

Mine is about 3 years old and I chose the Paperwhite because it's waterproof and I go to a spa a few times a year and am clumsy enough to drop it in a hot tub. It's also good that I can rinse it off when I've been using it on the beach. But I think the consensus is that if you don't need the waterproof feature, the entry level model is fine - storage is a red herring unless you like recipe or comic books, you can store hundreds if not thousands of normal books on even the smallest amount of Gb.

Definitely look at the 20% off trade in deal - you also get a few pounds for your old device.

I agree the green one is pretty, don't know which version that is.

Don’t waste your money. The basic Kindle is the only Kindle you need

Are the expensive Kindles tempting? Absolutely. But you must resist reaching for your wallet, as the basic Amazon Kindle is all you're likely to ever need.

Thanks all. I use my old one to read in the bath all the time (and it's not waterproof) so I think maybe the basic will do me. Almost certainly green. And without posting on here I wouldn't have known about the trade in. Thanks all 😊😊😊

I can't remember all the reasons, but would recommend checking out the kindle kids. From memory i's basically the paperwhite, but way cheaper.

Snowmanscarf · 30/12/2024 21:20

The only criteria I had was that it’s backlit, so I can read it in bed without disturbing dh.

Just bought a 2nd user Kindlefire 9generation from local shop £50.
It is also a tablet, already had Amazon acc. easy, it surprised me.

I had the old Paperwhite until it died a few months ago. I replaced it with the basic. The new basic is comparable to the old Paperwhite apart from the waterproof feature- both are now backlit whereas the old basic wasn't. The basic is also a little smaller and lighter so easier to hold.

Can you transfer your library from the old to the new one? I have a very old one with a few books I would like to keep on it. I am worried it will die at some point.

When I bought a new kindle, the library on my old kindle automatically appeared on the new one.

Thank you. I only use it when travelling and I have several books still to read.
