I got Ithaca by Claire North and Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfield, about which I am very chuffed.

Hoping for The Voyage Home by Pat Barker and East by Meera Sodha from extended family over the next few days.

What did you get to increase your book mountain?

Very nice Cornishclio. I got The man on a donkey by HFM Prescott because of my love of Wolf Hall. Interested to find out about the companion book.

Turophilic · 25/12/2024 19:39

I’m interested in hearing about the companion to Wolf Hall (other than the sequels). What is it, @Cornishclio ?

I read 'Poor' in a day. It was a very gripping read!

TakeMyLifeAndLetItBe · 25/12/2024 19:54

I bought Ds1:

A Hobbit, A Wardrobe and A Great War by Joseph Loconte

To Change All Worlds: Critical Theory from Marx to Marcuse by Carl Trueman

Which I knew he'd love, but I'd like to read them too! He was really pleased with them.

I only bought myself a journalling Bible, which is very restrained!

BebbanburgIsMine · 25/12/2024 21:51

@lorn195

DD said she got it from Amazon, I haven't seen it in the shops anywhere.

Forgot to mention I also got the Ghosts second book, the making of the series.

BebbanburgIsMine · 25/12/2024 22:16

Sorry @lorn195

The book is called Doon Memory Lane.

I've just settled down in my bed to read it.

It is called Wolf Hall Companion by Lauren Mackay. It talks about the people, the places and the history. We have been watching the BBC drama of Wolf Hall and the Mirror and the Light and my husband thought I might find it interesting. It looks good.

Thanks! I loved Wolf Hall, I’ve read it 3 times and listened to the unabridged audiobook as well. I got slower and slower reading the final book as I didn’t want Henry to actually do it. I was far too fond of Cromwell.

I enjoy a lot of fiction set in that period but Mantel really was a cut above.

@Turophilic

I haven't read the book but usually I enjoy the books more than the TV series so will be settling down with Hilary Mantal and a glass of wine tomorrow. 😀

MamaGarl85 · 25/12/2024 23:43

Cat Lady by Dawn O'Porter
Book of beginnings Sally Page
And the second and third books in the dark portal series by robin Jarvis (a series I loved as a kid and have recently rediscovered)
