Looking for a (unicorn) book

Not a book about unicorns 🦄 but a book that maybe doesn't exist?

I do love a domestic noir but I'm looking for something a wee bit different.

A book that's an uplifting, feel good read, set in the UK in modern day with a female protagonist. Preferably middle aged, finding herself again, maybe leaving a miserable husband and having adventures on her own or with friends. I'm not looking for romance but as a sub plot it's fine.

Or just something really uplifting. A book that you didn't want to end. I just want to read something happy 😁

And if you got this far without wanting a lie down, thank you ❤️

Ok, I have an Irish one for you. Whether it is uplifting/feel good? Yes, if you consider freedom to be that.

Oh I should have said set in Ireland too.

That sounds interesting, I've put it in my wish list on Audible.

Thank you so much for this 🙏

Broken Light by Joanne Harris

Not quite middle aged but I enjoyed Sophie Kinsella’s The Burnout.

Have a look at Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce. The action does move to the other side of the world but is partly set in the UK and the main character is very British. It’s a lovely uplifting book.

Edit - sorry just realised you said modern day which this isn’t - it’s still good though!

Patricia Fisher series - Steve Higgs, easy read, cozy mystery series, but good stories, and characters that you’ll grow to love.

Away with the penguins
Mrs Benson Beetles

  • both have older women protagonists, and are good stories

The Tour - Jean Grainger , may fit your bill. Set in Ireland, about passengers on a coach tour. Enjoyable book.
