Love it. Gentle story of hesitant people falling in love.

Can you recommend similar please?

I haven't read it but it's on my list aster seeing Ade Efmundson recommend it in Between the Covers.

Hope you get someone along soon to recommend a book you enjoy.

Have you read any of the Claire Chambers books? Particularly her last 2.

RubyTuesday10 · 17/11/2024 12:58

Loved it too! Best one he’s written! I also liked Talking at night by Claire Daverley.

Riverswims · 17/11/2024 14:43

I’m not enjoying it so far, I don’t like the repetition of hearing everything from two different points of view, and it’s pretty dull, I’m not interested in the brown batter or the shower gel. The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry it ain’t. maybe it’ll pick up tho?

Thanks for the recommendations.

Full disclosure- I listening to it on Audible.

I'm listening to Sweet Sorrow by David Nicholls on Audible. It was free. I'm very much enjoying it. It's tender and funny.

Manyindigowings · 17/11/2024 16:44

@ApolloandDaphne that ticks all the boxes. Thank you.

I listened to it on audiobook as well, and loved it.

I'd second Clare Chambers- Small Pleasures and Shy Creatures (though the latter only in hardback). Both feature gentle characters and really good storylines. Some of Sally Vickers too like the Librarian.

@DrivingThePlot Nicholls is a scriptwriter. I wonder if his ‘books’ are better stories read to.

Will definitely check out Clare Chambers. Thank you.

Also listened on Audible and enjoyed much more than I expected to. Think I am the right age for it! Recognised myself at several points.

Watching with interest, as I do like a gentle read sometimes.

I can also thoroughly recommend Clare Chambers. I really enjoyed Small Pleasures and Learning to Swim.

Another author I would recommend is Kate Grenville. The Idea of Perfection and One Life - My Mother's Story.
