This is a book I remember reading in the late nineties/ early noughties. It's a teen fiction book about two teen ice skaters. A middle class boy who after enjoying a trip ice skating asks for lessons for his birthday. And a young girl possibly called Gabrielle who has a poor single mum whos Italian. Both adequate skaters who start to win comps.
Grigor a Russian ex olypian ice champian also attends the rink he decides to train them as a partner ship. It goes well and they get better results.
The boy goes off the rails gets into drinking and stops putting the effort in. The partnership splits , the girl partners with someone else. The boy learns the error of his ways and apologises. They reunite.
I can remember everything except the boys name and the title !
