Getting fed up with Audible....

I don't have time to read, unfortunately. I love to listen on Audible, but am increasingly disillusioned by books I feel could be so good if the narration was better.....
I've purchased a few that I regret, can't finish as I can't listen to the awful narration but if I read myself, think I'd enjoy....
Any tips for avoiding this pitfall? Does anyone have a favourite narrators lists? Or narrators to avoid?

Not what you’re asking but did you know that audible are very good at refunding your purchase credit if you don’t get on with a book? Check your account details for a page which explains how.

Not exactly what you were asking but I use free apps BorrowBox and Libby, which you access with a library card.

The down side is that the range probably isn’t as wide as Audible and since they’re connected to libraries you have to reserve the books & wait if they’re not immediately available, but the free part balances that out for me & means I'm more comfortable taking chances on new books / authors / narrators.

I use a mix of Audible and Borrowbox. I'm happy to wait for some books and the ones that aren't available on BorrowBox or I want them quickly, I use Audible. I'm prepared to take a risk on BorrowBox because it's free. Some books, I've returned after 5 mins as I know it's not going to work out. One woman was English putting on an American accent, but it kept slipping. It was very irritating and I just thought, why didn't you just use an American?!

I always wait a few days upon release on Audible to check out the reviews and try the preview. I hear you op, as some narration has really ruined my enjoyment of some, otherwise good stories.

I just returned the new Adele Parks because the narrator did the man's voice like a Gruffalo.

No advice but I'm right there with you. Some books they use the dullest robot sounding narrator ever it's awful. I won't buy without sampling the voice.

I can't seem to find much at all on the libby app so I gave up.
