Hi all, looking for a recommendation for a book about American history! Thanks

I'm thinking you might do better if you were more specific. Colonial history? Civil war history? WWII history? Presidential biography? You might also do better asking in a U.S. based history forum, like City Data.

That said, I recently read Stacy Schiff's much-praised biography, The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams, and was very impressed.

If it'll help, David McCullough and Joseph Ellis would probably be among the best known historians. If you have a sneaky fondness for women historians, Doris Kearns Goodwin.
