I was told I'd read it in a weekend/24 hours. That it is brilliant

But I took over two weeks to read it and found it only got interesting when she was in the life with Ash the surgeon and her daughter Molly.

I actually felt very sad when she had to say goodbye to Molly and felt a bit shocked because she seemed to bond with her - surely that was worth more than changing the life of some kid who happened not to turn to crime because of her music lessons once a week? Hmm that seemed to be the basis of her going back to the library again

I get the point of the book which was nice. But the main character Nora was tediously boring and I just didn't enjoy it

Am I just a misery guts? Did anyone else think it was a bit meh?

I enjoyed it, but it didn’t blow me away. It felt rushed to me, there wasn’t enough depth to it. The alternate lives should (imo) have been explored in more detail, then I’d have cared more about the character.

Spoiler alert!!

I thought it was quite poor.
A fairly superficial treatment of depression and suicide.
I thought it sounded like a great idea when I started reading it, but the different storylines quickly got boring.
I preferred How to Stop Time, but I don't think I'd risk another book by him again.

I thought it was a brilliant idea but very poorly executed and was really disappointed. Don't understand the hype at all.

Mynewnameis · 06/10/2024 11:03

I didn't really enjoy it much

socialdilemmawhattodo · 06/10/2024 11:05

I didn't mind it. It wasn't deep which suits me for fiction reading. I liked the idea.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 06/10/2024 11:09

I agree it didn’t live up to the hype. The first few chapters were so incredibly depressing that I nearly stopped there.

One thing I never really got was how it worked with the alternative versions of Nora who were put on hold while she tried their lives out. Presumably if she’d decided to stick with one, that version of her would just have faded away which feels rather unfair, but I don’t think there was ever any suggestion that it could work both ways - that main Nora could have been displaced by one of the others.

Very overrated, I felt. I kept waiting to be blown away by it, as i was intrigued by the premise and had been told I'd enjoy it, but overall just meh.

Honestly, one of the worst books I've ever read.
