Would anyone else very uninspired by the choices of the official book group like to start an offshoot one?

Where we could democratically decide on books, and not necessarily have theme, or even a time limit?

(Hopes no one tells me there already is one, and I've been missing out)

Its a good idea, but suggests a book group might not be the best thing for you. I avoid them because I always feel like I'm going to waste my time on at least 50% of the books which I just don't want to read.

Well, dont most book clubs vote to decide on choices (i.e like the Mumsnet one does). If there are thousands/hundreds of suggestions, then I guess there can only be a few shortlisted...is that whatt you feel makes the 'official' one undemocratic? And surely if you have no time limit, then some people will be gagging to talk about a book within a fortnight, whereas other readers will take 4 months because they haven't managed to get round to it, having had no idea when they needed to finish it by??

Just not sure if it would all work....
