Hi, haven't read lots of jodi picoult but enjoyed my sisters keeper. Looking to take a couple on holiday, any recommendations?

The Pact, which was her second after MSK, was good.

I recently enjoyed Sing You Home.

DontBiteTheCat · 29/07/2024 22:18

19 Minutes, The Storyteller and Mad Honey.

I struggle to remember specific plots because they are all sort of the same - ethical dilemma underpinned by tricky legal question. But I don’t remember reading a bad one!

Sarvanga24 · 29/07/2024 22:20

I’ve just finished Nineteen Minutes and would also recommend it.

I have loved all her books, except song of a humpback whale so take any except that one 😁

I'm rereading Salem Falls.

The one in the maternity ward.

Which is that one? I don't think I've read that?

I like 19 minutes and house rules. I met Jodi Picoult once. Spent ages in whsmith waiting for her to sign my book, good times Smile.

The one in the maternity ward is called Small Great Things, another good one!

Thanks for the recommendations 😊. I'll order them all and report back

I've not read any in a while but I agree I've never had a bad one. They are as always so gripping.

SheilaFentiman · 30/07/2024 09:32

OP, I would definitely break up your holiday reading though! I think a couple in a row then something else would be good :-)

My sisters keeper was dreadful. The contempt she showed her other children was shocking.

Generally contrived and boring. Also she can't write well - Anna sounded like a 35 year old not a child.

That's what's so soothing about them. Formulaic, middlebrow, ethical questions and decent enough prose. It's a good recipe for a relaxing read. Grin

The one about the Amish girl

I read and enjoyed quite a few of hers a few years back, but it always seems to me that the little twist she likes to add in her last chapter is usually cruel and unnecessary to the story. I don't want to highlight any specific ones as they would be spoilers, but if you have read any of her books you will probably know what I mean.

MissyB1 · 07/08/2024 11:34

Just finished house rules. What's interesting is she doesn't always make her characters likeable, so the mum Emma really irritated me, especially in the way she ignored her younger child. But I guess that was written to make the point of how other siblings can suffer in a house where one child has a disability.

I'm looking to read another so following with interest.

I have read quite a few books by Jodi Picoult over the years and Leaving Time was my favourite by a country mile.
