unknownrebelbang · 11/04/2008 23:25

Not read James Herbert for over 20 years, but used to love his stuff.

Rats and Lair.

Not sure I could read them these days.

havalina · 12/04/2008 00:01

I can never remember which ones he has written fro some reason, really liked the ghosts of sleath. Is fluke the one about the dog? If so thats fabulous. {goes to look on amazon for a reminder}

Mumcentreplus · 12/04/2008 16:08

I read Rats,Lair and Fluke...Rats I read when I was far too young suprised I didn't develop some kind of irrational phobia tbh..lol..haven't read after those I'm a King chick..

Joash · 12/04/2008 18:10

I used to love Stephen King - but, for me he has become very predictable (and if I am honest - boring) over the past five or six years. So much so that I have given all his books away (had every one).

jofeb04 · 12/04/2008 20:09

I liked Stephen Kings earlier stuff, but thought the Cell was pretty good as well!

Why do I like scaring my self with stories like these

I love James Herbert..my parents used to get his books every year in duty free wehn we went away on hols . It was like a pilgrimage so I was brought up on his books. I have to admit I havent read all of them cause I am a bit of a wimp, but I loved Fluke.

LittlePinkAlien · 13/04/2008 11:48

I have a lot of James Herbert (in fact I may have all of them). I like it better than Stephen King although I do cringe at the grusome bits!

Loved Fluke (isn't that the only non creepy one?).

Did you like Cell jofeb04? I couldn't put it down all the way through and was a little disappointed at the end.

StealthPolarBear · 13/04/2008 11:52

I liked the first couple of JH books I read, but after that they all seemed very much the same and the gruesome bits got worseI like a couple of Stephen King books but most of them bore me to tears.
(I do like horror BTW, I've not just put down my Mills & Boon to come in here and slag them off )

StealthPolarBear · 13/04/2008 11:53

ooh think I might read Fluke if it's less gory than the rest.
Is he the one with the gory sex scenes as well?

LittlePinkAlien · 13/04/2008 11:54

Magic cottage was creepy with a bit of fluffyness thrown in?

LittlePinkAlien · 13/04/2008 11:55

lol! Fluke is a dog. It's quite sweet really.

StealthPolarBear · 13/04/2008 11:58

Sorry, I meant he = JH
He seems to enjoy the fairly vile sex scenes iirc - the books started to leave me with a bit of a nasty taste in my mouth
