The Only Suspect - Louise Candlish

I got this out of the library and started it last week. After the the first two chapters, I felt like I'd read it before as the story line seemed familiar. I double checked my books already read on Storygraph and Goodreads (which goes back to 2019) and it didn't appear on there. The book was published 2023.

I've checked and as far as I can see it hasn't been released under a different title or with a different cover as none of the other Louise Candlish books I've read have the same plot.

Has anyone read it and knows of a book with a similar story line?! I finished the book and it didn't really enjoy it as I felt I knew what would happen so nothing was a surprise.

Of course it could just be a badly written and predictable book!

That type of novel can be a bit formulaic. I enjoy them but sometimes the plot devices do feel a bit old.

(Don't know this book so can't comment on the plot, in fact I wasn't going to post at all but then pressed post by mistake which is why my comment is singularly unhelpful!)

Well thank you for the reply anyway 😆

Might it be that the first two chapters were included as a taster in a previous book, so you read them there? I’ve stopped reading the tasters now for exactly this reason!

It could be, I never thought of that.

I'm definitely not going to read them again!
