Holiday book recommendations

Hello all. I'm looking for suggestions for a couple of holiday reads. I usually buy one or two new releases/new paperbacks for holiday, but I'm struggling to find anything inspiring this year - they all seem a bit gloomy/dark/political somehow.

I want a light but intelligent literary/historical/romantic novel (or two), possibly with a sunny setting for the holiday vibes (but not essential). I'll happily start a series if necessary. I'm not really into fantasy or crime/thriller particularly, but wouldn't rule them out completely.

What would you recommend?

Oldies but how about Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes, The Provence Series by Peter Mayle* or * Driving Over Lemons Trilogy by Chris Stewart?

What country/area are you going to? I love to read a book set in the place I am holidaying in.

Thank you for the suggestions. We're going to the Ile de Ré, France.

I've seen the film of Under the Tuscan Sun and it definitely has that escapist vibe. I didn't know it was a book as well, so I might have a look for that.

I just enjoyed Listen for the lie by Amy Tintera

The Girls of Summer by Katie Bishop for a holiday vibes book with a twist.

Meet Me When My Heart Stops by Becky Hunter for an unusual romantic read.

Have you tried Lucinda Riley?

Yes, I love her but I think I've read most of them now!

Suzie Hull books are stunners too. They’re not a series but read the first one first!! And enjoy!
