Started Anne Frank's diary a while ago and then moved on to something trashy about middle aged women who are having a miserable time .
I really need something much more upbeat as I am feeling a bit flat as it is and find both these reads are not giving me the much needed escapism

Does anything spring to mind to recommend to me ?

Hi. I loved Emma Kennedy’s, The Tent, the Bucket and Me and the sequel. The first is about growing up and going on holidays during the 1970s. The second is about going to university and then on a working holiday in the US.
I aLeo enjoyed Rachel Joyes’s Miss Benson’s Beetle which tells the story of an unlikely friendship and adventure.
Both books were recommended on MN and lots of posters enjoyed them too.

I’m also pretty down in the dumps today so I hope someone comes along with more suggestions! Take care :)

Jojo Moyes - in her shoes!

I read it for book club, probably wouldn’t have usually picked it, but really enjoyed it

Patrick Leigh Fermor: A Time of Gifts

P. G. Wodehouse: Right Ho Jeeves

Douglas Adams, Bill Bryson, and the poetry of John Betjeman also give me a lift. So do the essays of Bertrand Russell and the Sherlock Holmes novels (especially when read by Stephen Fry).

I've mentioned it before on Mumsnet but I found the Driving over Lemons series by Chris Stewart a really enjoyable series - biography rather than fiction but definitely escapist!

I've just started the 4th book in the Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman. For me it's laugh out loud funny and entertaining - would recommend.

I would also second Driving Over Lemons - good fun.

Thanks for all the ideas i have downloaded a few already.
Appreciate your kind words @Merrycat123 .

I was meaning to read Thursday Murder club so may start there but really like the sound of Driving over Lemons too.
I looked at the JoJo Moyes too but feel it starts talking about some forge things that are making me feel fed up so that may be one to come back to!
Thanks again all
