I'm listening to it...about a 1/3 of the way through and finding the main character really annoying....does it get better?

No.

If you don’t like it at 1/3 in, you won’t like it.

I loved this book! It's one of my all-time favourites, but then I liked Nora and didn't find her irritating. I was fascinated by her different lives and how vividly they were described.

If you're intrigued by the idea and it's just Nora that is putting you off, try Kate Atkinson's Life After Life - you might enjoy it more.

BigDahliaFan · 17/05/2024 13:58

I'll try that.

I don't know what it is about her, maybe it's listening rather than reading it...but I'm just thinking - you are so wet I want to give you a shake.

Nah, I read it all and wasn't impressed, wish I'd given up.

I thought it was childish nonsense to be honest.
Put up with the status quo because the alternative might be worse.
Crap

I loved it even though I was really cynical beforehand.

I don’t think Nora is very likeable but I think that’s the point. She’s not selling herself as someone to like, she doesn’t like herself. If she did she wouldn’t have ended up in the midnight library or be living her other lives.

Loooved the theme of the book but yeah I'd like to read a different version of it, didn't particularly like the protagonist or the scenarios but loved the overall concept.

CountingCrones · 17/05/2024 14:23

I enjoyed it when I read it, and felt very positive about it.

Two weeks later it felt trite - superficially appealing only.

Hellohah · 18/05/2024 07:35

No, I agree with others. I thought it was a good idea very poorly executed and it irritated me from start to finish.

Metrictum · 18/05/2024 07:37

I enjoyed it and I’m someone who doesn’t finish about half the books I start as I’m picky and can’t be bothered to keep going if something isnt gripping me!

Augustone · 23/05/2024 21:10

It takes a lot for me to give up on a book but this is one I just couldn’t finish. I kept hoping it would get better but it didn’t. Save yourself and find something else, I really don’t think it is worth perservering.

I disliked it but loved The Radleys.
