Hi, i can't remember the title, or find the thread! But there was a thread about books about walking (especially around the UK), could anyone give me some recommendations please?

Amazon recommends The Salt Path but I think posters talked about another book too. Thank you.

I've just finished 'You are here' by David Nichols. Most of the book is spent with the main characters doing Wainwright's coast to coast.

I recently read Isabella Bird's book about travelling alone through the Rocky Mountains. She also travelled in China, Korea, Hawaii - haven't read these yet, but this has reminded me to look out for them!
She was a Victorian adventurer and her writing style is quite light and informative. Many of her books are available free on Project Gutenberg.

That's a great thread NannyR, I've bookmarked it now. Currently reading The Salt Path but not sure if I'm enjoying it for many of the reasons cited on the thread. I liked Simon Armitage's books about walking and his poetry readings. Much more likeable I thought.

My wife LOVES books about walking, so I've just asked her- she says anything by Robert MacFarlane, and Wanderers by Kerri Andrews.

Tracks by Robyn Davidson is supposed to be very good as well- I loved the film.

Nightwalking by John Lewis-Stemple

Beautifully written and made me long to be a man free to walk alone but for my dog in the deepest of nights.
