Started this yesterday, finding it essentially unsatisfying. Anyone else read it?

Me I read it recently it is a load of the blurb on the back makes you think that it offers a result in the end. If it does I must have read over it with my eyes closed or something strange. I could have written it. TOTALLY agree you put it so well essentially unsatisfying.

ArcticRoll · 02/04/2008 13:56

Yeah agree-I picked it up at library and found it dull.

Essentially unsatisfying writer - have you read any of his journalism?

NotQuiteCockney · 02/04/2008 16:50

I think I must have read some, I recognise the name. I do read the Guardian.

Maybe I'll give up, then. I'm only about a quarter of the way through.

Have just bought this for a quid in a warehouse sale... Grauniad review was quite favourable. Is it really that dull?

NotQuiteCockney · 02/04/2008 22:16

It's not dull exactly. Just sorta pointless. The writing is competant. He just seems like an arse, an unsympathetic twit.

I thought it was brilliant - takes a while to get into it but its quite funny and very poignant in places

lucharl · 02/04/2008 22:18

one of those writers who makes my flesh crawl. Haven't read the book, but have read articles by him/interviews with him about it. Self-obsessed whinger. Didn't he write something unpleasant about a gf or wife ages ago?

lucharl · 02/04/2008 22:19

oh, have just seen flossie's post...
