I’ve just seen on Twitter that CJ Sansom has died.

Genuinely feeling sad about this. I love the Shardlake series, especially the first four novels. My late dad was a big fan too, so the books remind me of him as well.

I’ll miss you, Matthew and Barak.

We posted about this at the same time. Very sad news, he leaves a wonderful collection.

Comes out May 1st. Decent reviews.

I will raise a glass to CJ this evening. Read all of the Shardlakes whilst working off Chancery Lane which really brought them to life.

Yeas, I've seen the trailer and I have some reservations about casting (Matthew looks so young!) but I'm still looking forward to watching it.

Just heard this on the news and am surprised at how shocked and sad it made me feel.
Love the Shardlake books. Have read them all apart from Tombland, and loved listening to the BBC dramatisations on Audible too.

Oh , of course they’re on Audible! I had never thought of listening to the books/ dramatisations . That’s where my next few credits are going - thank you !

Arthur Hughes plays Ruairi on The Archers. I suspect we'll be hearing even less of Ruairi now! We don't have Disney + so probably won't see this.

Very sad news about C. J. Sansom. I've read most of the series but not the most recent two, I think. A complete re-read sounds like a good idea for the summer.

Very happy to have helped! They are fabulous, and sooo atmospheric. Everything I would have hoped for from dramatisations.
Hope you really enjoy them. Am sure you will.
Oh, and you get the first six (Dissolution to Lamentation) all for ONE credit. Fantastic value.

Sad to see this, I love his books and am really looking forward to the upcoming series.

HuntingoftheSnark · 29/04/2024 15:20

Sad to hear this. My mother and I met him in Norwich and he was most charming and joined us for tea.

Hiker50 · 29/04/2024 18:05

I'm so sad. He wrote such wonderful books. X
I've just read Dominian which was very different from Shardlake but so good.
A huge talent.

Abra1t · 29/04/2024 18:07

How sad--I wonder if he had any previews of the Disney + series version of his wonderful books?

This is so sad

Such a fantastic author

May you RIP

Savoyafternoon · 29/04/2024 20:50

Very sad.

Perfectpots · 29/04/2024 20:57

Sad news. One of the few (actually only) book series that me, dad, and dh all liked .

ColinRobinsonsFart · 29/04/2024 21:06

It is very sad - I knew he was ill. His books are good - I loved the shardlake series and I also read Dominion.

cheapskatemum · 29/04/2024 21:30

I'm on holiday & reading "Dissolution", which I bought pristine in a charity shop. I didn't realise it was one of a series, but remembered reading "Winter in Madrid" years ago and really enjoying it. Sad news indeed.

newnamethanks · 01/05/2024 05:59

Very sad news, an author whose work I greatly admired. I'll miss the books he never got to write. RIP.

upinaballoon · 03/05/2024 14:51

Please tell me, all of you, in the first book, which might be 'Dark Fire' I think that Matthew was old and writing about things which had happened when he was much younger i.e. he survived all the dangerous situations ! Please tell me I remember that correctly.
The last one I listened to, on ordinary audiobook, was the one about Kett's rebellion.
I was sad to hear CJS has died.

TheOnionMaster · 25/06/2024 14:45

Surprised and most saddened to hear of CJ's passing. A wonderful writer, often mesmeric. I am halfway through Winter in Madrid and will have only Dominion and Tombland remaining, which I shall savour and cherish.
