J. K. Rowling has mentioned it on X/Twitter in the last day or so. She's been on Sark for research purposes. She says a few chapters will be set there. New title is The Hallmarked Man. No publication date yet, but speculation is if she's nearly finished the manuscript it could be out before Christmas this year.

I think I read a book set on Sark when I was a child. I've always wanted to visit it. Maybe this will be the spur I need.

J.K. Rowling reveals title of Strike #8: "The Hallmarked Man"

Unexpectedly and through Twitter, J.K. Rowling has revealed the title of the eighth book in the Cormoran Strike series: "The Hallmarked Man." Apparently, from the Isle of Sark (in the English Channel), Rowling tweeted a photo of the place she had prev...

If Ink Black Heart is the one based around computer moderators, it's my least favourite Strike but I still loved it!

I found the "chats" rather tedious.

I loved The Running Grave. IMO it was her best book, and one of the best books I have ever read.

I would love to read another book set on Sark. I have holidayed there three times. I love the place.

The other Sark based book that a PP mentioned could be Mr Pye by Mervyn Peake.

I just skipped the chats in IBH. I know writers sometimes get shirty with readers who don't take full advantage of complications they choose to add to their books, but I'm too old and cranky to care. And a with good author (like JKR) you still get what you need.

RampantIvy · 14/12/2024 08:52

I skipped the chats as well. I don't think they added anything to the story.

Does anyone know where you can get IBH if you don’t have a tv licence? Not paying £150 just for Strike, despite temptation, but would happily pay for the series elsewhere if it’s available.

Catapaulting · 14/12/2024 20:41

I can’t quite get into the series coz of how they change the order of the story.

Can't imagine it will be available anywhere else (legally) for a while as the new series has only just been released on iplayer. All episodes on there now.

Date for The Hallmarked Man release is 9th September according to Audible, can now pre-order! Then checked Amazon, also can pre-order for same date.

So excited, saw another poster describe The Running Grave as book heroin and that is exactly how I felt, was so worried about Robin getting out safely, although my logical side said she would survive (and it IS fiction)

Happytoday69 · 18/01/2025 14:09

So excited ! That’s 2 weeks before my holiday and it would be so good to read on the beach but I don’t think I will be able to hold off reading it before I go 😂

I've booked A/L for it! Thinking of doing a wee reading retreat for myself. Maybe on an island dreams of Sark but at the wrong end of the country

Lunde · 25/01/2025 00:04

I've preordered. It says 1,072 pages .....

I’m definitely going with Audible then!

Sark is brilliant. I have holidayed there three times.

Jux · 05/02/2025 22:14

Oh good, I'll enjoy reading another Strike.

Beetrooty · 19/02/2025 21:02

Good news.
Just finished the Ink Black Heart and I'm feeling kind of mind blown in terms of the level of complexity with all the different characters, and the online chats and twitter and different pseudonyms. I kept having to turn back to check what had happened previously.
Not as good as troubled blood but still v good.

Sark sounds an interesting setting. Just read a Line to Kill by Anthony Horowitz and that was set on Alderney.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2025 21:21

@Beetrooty I found all the online chats really irritating. However, they were covered really well in the TV dramatisation.

IMO The Running Grave is the best book in the Strike series so far.

Sark is brilliant. I have holidayed there three times and would go back in a heartbeat. I can't wait to read about it in the next book.
