J. K. Rowling has mentioned it on X/Twitter in the last day or so. She's been on Sark for research purposes. She says a few chapters will be set there. New title is The Hallmarked Man. No publication date yet, but speculation is if she's nearly finished the manuscript it could be out before Christmas this year.

I think I read a book set on Sark when I was a child. I've always wanted to visit it. Maybe this will be the spur I need.

J.K. Rowling reveals title of Strike #8: "The Hallmarked Man"

Unexpectedly and through Twitter, J.K. Rowling has revealed the title of the eighth book in the Cormoran Strike series: "The Hallmarked Man." Apparently, from the Isle of Sark (in the English Channel), Rowling tweeted a photo of the place she had prev...

This is wonderful news. Hope it's out in September. The Strike book releases are a true highlight of the year!

WelcomeMarch · 16/03/2024 17:44

Good news!

MsNeis · 16/03/2024 19:32

Wonderful news! If I remember correctly, Strike books use to come out around September or October, am I right? I can't wait!

HowIWroteElasticWoman · 17/03/2024 01:35

Oh good!

FlorisApple · 17/03/2024 04:32

That is great news! I think they're getting better and better, or is it just me enjoying them more and more?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/03/2024 07:01

I thought The Running Grave was excellent.

This is great news - I hope they announce a release date soon!

Caravaggiouch · 17/03/2024 07:12

Oh fingers crossed! I loved the last one.

Bobbybobbins · 17/03/2024 07:14

The last one was brilliant. Exciting news!

RockaLock · 17/03/2024 07:24

Given the Robin/Strike cliffhanger she left us on, it can't come soon enough for me!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/03/2024 07:31

Exciting! I really enjoyed the last one.

Definitely!!!

I love the Strike series. The characters are wonderfully drawn and the setting in London where I live brings life to the novels for me which take them to another level of enjoyment. Can't get enough!

Any recommendations for similar mysteries and crime novels set in modern London with well developed characters?

It's rare to find a strong female and complex male in the same story which makes this series even more special.

DeanElderberry · 17/05/2024 21:21

Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan books are set in London and are very good.

I’ve just been trying to find any news on a release date for this. Really hoping for September - it’s such a wonderful time to get stuck into a book at the end of the summer. Does anyone have an intel please?

I don't think anyone knows yet. JKR normally announces it on X/Twitter. Bit tight now for it to be September.

Mick Herron’s Slough House series is excellent, though more spy based than crime

That’s what’s worrying me. It feels a bit tight now!

Funnily enough I am reading that series at the moment! I started a thread ages ago asking for recommendations for things to read while waiting for the next Strike - it may have been you who encouraged me to read the Slough House series. I’m nearly finished book 2.

RunSlowTalkFast · 15/08/2024 21:17

There are a few other books I want to read coming out in September and I've known the publication dates of those for months so I'm a bit worried it won't even be this year!

MeanMrMustardSeed · 15/08/2024 21:47

Noooo! What other September books have you got your eye on? I might need a plan b / c / d

MeanMrMustardSeed · 15/08/2024 21:50

I even quite like the Richard Osman series which I think usually comes out in September too. It’s a bit of light relief, but I think he’s started a different series (haven’t looked into it), and it’s the characters, rather than the mystery, that are the main attraction of his books.

RunSlowTalkFast · 15/08/2024 21:50

The new Richard Osman one, We Solve Murders mainly.

I'm also a Gilmore Girls fan and the actress who plays Emily Gilmore (and Baby's mum in Dirty Dancing!) has a memoir coming out!

Matt Haig's new book is also out at the end of August.

Lostsadandconfused · 15/08/2024 21:58

Great news, I walked up Denmark Street the other day and got irrationally excited!
