Can anyone help me identify this recent novel.

A few months ago I jotted down the name of a book that I thought would be perfect to buy for my mum. Now I can't find what I have done with the note.
Does anyone recognise the book from the scant information I can remember? It was in a list of either books that were published in 2023 or would be published in 2024.
It was about two (maybe three) sisters they were elderly but had lived wild exciting lives back in the early 20th C. Possibly in Paris?? It was called something like The Amusements or The Diversions.

I have Googled and searched online bookshops with no luck. Any suggestions??

The familiars?

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/03/2024 20:33

The familiars is about witches.

Is it either The Lost Bookshop or The Asylum?

The familiars?

No. I've read that (and given it to mum) but no totally wrong period and plot.

I can remember reading the back of it in a bookstore. But can’t remember the name.

the lost apothecary is a great book and similar genre. If you want something to read in the meantime.

Seeandroidsfighting · 12/03/2024 20:36

Not recent but would The Painted Girls fit the bill?

I've read the Asylum (and again passed it into mum) again not the right plot. I think it was set now-ish looking back on a sisters when they were teens/20s.
Definitely a two word title The something.

Not Shrines of Gaiety? Doesn't really fit but for some reason it comes to mind.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/03/2024 20:39

Ah no, not a two word title.

Teatotally · 12/03/2024 20:39

The Whalebone Theatre? But three words!

The Nightingale?

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 12/03/2024 20:47

Thanks for all the suggestions - none of them are what I was looking for but I've added several of your suggestions to my ever growing to read list.

The Nightingale?

Also read that one - it's on the bedside table in the spare room for mum to collect next time she visits!

The Postcard?

TempleOfBloom · 12/03/2024 20:57

I was going to suggest Shrines of Gaiety too.

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 12/03/2024 20:59

victoriaspongee · 12/03/2024 20:54

The Postcard?

No not that one. I think the second word referenced the adventures they had had. The Entertainments, The Amusements something like that.
I don't think it was war story - I think it would be interwar or possibly even pre WW1 but not any further back than that.

Definitely not that (but it's now on what my husband refers to as THE LIST i.e. the neverending pile of things I want to read.

It’s got to be the excitements.
I realise I’m way too overinvested in this

Chersfrozenface · 12/03/2024 21:02

Adrienne Chinn, The Three Fry Sisters series? The second, The Paris Sister, was published in 2023.

WaitingForSunnyDays · 12/03/2024 21:11

Now I want to read The Excitements!

The Excitements

Yes that's it. Thank you. The sisters sound like one of my many great Aunts which is why I thought mum would enjoy it.

I don't know what it's about really- I just put 'elderly sisters, Paris, look back at exciting lives' into Google.
