Do you have an e-reader?

I've currently got the kindle app on my phone which I use to read on the bus etc. DH has offered to buy me an e-reader, not a Kindle. We're looking at the Kobo and I'm getting confused! I'm not turning up any answers as my questions are probably too convoluted.

If I buy a book from a local bookshop, it's in epub format. If DH and I each have a Kobo reader registered to our own email address, can we both read this book? Or do we need to use the same email address for both readers? What about DC?

Is there some kind of digital stamp on an ebook? If I buy this book and my account with the bookshop is over a secondary email, can I read it on a kobo reader where the account is registered to my primary email?

I don't know about buying books from a local bookshop to put on a kobo. My understanding is that kobos work in the same way as kindles. You have an account with kobo or Amazon and you buy & download books to your device.

I have a kindle, and use that regularly. DH shares my Amazon account and can download books bought onto his kindle too. Amazon say that a maximum number of devices can use that account at any one time and we've never exceeded it with our kindles, phone apps, and the DC's devices. I assume kobo works the same way so you can share books.

Are you in the UK? Because it might be different elsewhere. You can't borrow library books and put them on a kindle but you can on a kobo.

No idea but most people I know with Kobo just borrow books from the library rather than buy them.
