Thank you - I think I've read this as I've read most of his books. Absolutely loved The Magpies.

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell and
The Curfew by T M Logan are both fairly recent reads and I enjoyed both.

SquashPenguin · 04/02/2024 08:31

I Pilgrim by Terry Hayes.

I still think about how good it was years after I read it!

QuillBill · 04/02/2024 08:41

This thread is just what I need.

I loved The Family Upstairs. There is a sequel to that.

There is - The Family Remains, which was also very good.

I like Lisa Jewell's novels. She's an auto-read for me. As is Jane Harper. Her Aaron Falk trilogy are superb, starting with The Dry. Her standalone novel, The Lost Man is utterly brilliant, so atmospheric in its description of the Australian outback. * *

Every book by Donato Carrisi. They twist and turn so many times, are often deeply disturbing, and I absolutely CANNOT put one down.

RampantIvy · 04/02/2024 12:55

Loving the recommendaions on this thread. Thank you.

You absolutely should! I bought it for a friend in hospital last year and he stayed up most of the night after his surgery just to see what happened 😆

A Dark Adapted Eye by Ruth Rendell. I like the film too, with Celia Imrie and Helena Bonham Carter, but the book is better.
There is no definite resolution over who was Jamie's mother. Personally I think it was Vera, but it could just as easily have been Eden.

Stringagal · 04/02/2024 13:09

I love most of Ruth Ware’s books. She ties the ends up nicely, I hate finishing a book and having unanswered questions but never felt that with hers.

I read How To Kill Your Family recently, thought that was well written and a new concept.

Ooh placemarking!
I'm a big fan of Mark Edwards.

I hated it.

Shroud for a Nightingale by P.D. James. And anything else by P.D. James.

BarbaraBuncle · 04/02/2024 13:36

I've remembered another writer I think is good - Belinda Bauer. Try her Exmoor trilogy starting with Blacklands. They're excellent.

Snap is one of the best books I've read - she's a brilliant writer

speedtalker · 04/02/2024 14:18

I am Pilgrim was great fun until he looked at (from memory) some cells under a microscope and was apparently able to read the DNA from them!

bringbacksideburns · 04/02/2024 14:22

The Last Thing To Burn by Will Dean.
Not a huge book but I could not put it down.

Just finished The Wire In The Blood by Val McDermid - very dark. ( Never watched the TV series.)

Keep meaning to start Lisa Jewell - she seems very popular.

Also loved The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty.
