Help - forgotten classic book name!

Oh it's driving me mad!

A classic novel, also made into a beautiful tv series with a modern soundtrack a few years back.

I think later than the Brontes?

It tells the story of an impoverished young woman, at a good school, managed to convince rich friend to take her home with her. It's all about her aspiration. It takes in travel abroad and a war. And I think ends with her back in the UK getting her just desserts.

Help much appreciated!!

Love Vanity Fair! The TV series was good too, I remember. Thanks for the reminder, I must see if I can find it anywhere.

Seems to be on both Prime and Apple, although possible at a cost!

It was the 1998 one I remember and which prompted me to read the book. Such a daring departure in its time (Thackeray's that is, not the 90s!).

I watched the 2018 series having always loved the book, and thought it was excellent! Bright colours and awesome soundtrack Smile
