I read a book ten years ago. I think it's by a well-established author. Fairly sure it's a woman. She and her family bought land somewhere in America to farm . This book describes their first year.
The chapters that stand out for me are one about cherries - they were going on holiday the next day and all the cherries ripened and they had to get friends around to help pick. And a chapter about turkeys. Turkeys are apparently very careless mothers as the babies are fattened for thanksgiving so they don't live long and the turkeys don't get a chance to learn how to be a good mother from their own mother.
Any ideas??
