50 Books Challenge 2023 Part Ten

Southeastdweller · 08/12/2023 12:56

Welcome to the tenth and final thread of the 50 Books Challenge for this year.

The challenge was to read fifty books (or more!) in 2023, though reading fifty wasn't mandatory. Any type of book can count, it’s not too late to join, and please try to let us all know your thoughts on what you've read.

The first thread of the year is here, the second one here, the third one here here, the fourth one here, the fifth one here, the sixth one here, the seventh one here, eighth one here and the ninth one here

How have you got on this year?

Thanks for the new thread South!

Definitely can't be bothered to type my whole list out. Sorry for those who like them. I will pretend it's too appease those who dislike them rather than sloth.

BestIsWest · 08/12/2023 14:16

New thread! And thanks @Southeastdweller for your sterling work in this and past years.
Currently reading The Blair Years - Alastair Campbell and deciding whether to use my shiny new Audible credit on 48 hours of Barbra Streisand.

This is what MNHQ say about the "Featured by Mumsnet" thing on Amazon:

Thanks for raising this. The 'featured by' is something that Amazon has implemented to highlight where a link has come from, and to be upfront about affiliate revenue.

You'll only see this if you click through to Amazon from Mumsnet - and it's letting you know that we may earn commission if you go on to make a purchase.

So it looks like it's an Amazon thing rather than a MN thing.

Sadik · 08/12/2023 17:42

Thanks Southeast - just checking in

LadybirdDaphne · 08/12/2023 18:52

Thanks for the new thread southeast! I’ll save my list for the end of the year. Recently finished these:

58 Let Sleeping Vets Lie - James Herriot
Just what the doctor vet ordered when work got a bit hectic.

59 Unsettled Ground - Claire Fuller
51 year old twins Jeanie and Julius have always lived in semi-isolation with their mother in a run down farm cottage, and their lives start to unravel when their mother unexpectedly dies early one morning. Excellent writing, but grimmer than I was expecting (and I didn’t think it would be a laugh a minute).

Continuing the theme of reading what everyone else read 2+ years ago with Magpie Lane. Might get to 65 by the end of the year if I finish everything I’ve got on the go.

Thank you!

Disaster! My TBR pile has two books in it... (and one is a slim Christmas book).

I have some books on pre order for paperback release but not til February!

Last year DH was in doghouse for getting me zero books for Christmas. He may need clearer instruction.

Thanks for the new thread!

32.The Oak Apple Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. Number 4 in the Morland Dynasty. The Puritans are coming! So much war in this one but I found it very engaging. I probably should have a break at some point but number 5 was very cheap.

Thank you for the new thread.

A disappointing year for me this year in terms of amount read, and also that quite a high percentage was very light fluffy nonsense (mostly very enjoyable though!)
