Spotify audiobooks

How did I not know that Spotify has so many great audiobooks for free (with a premium subscription) until today?!
I have never listened to an audiobook before and am currently 4 hours in to Lisa Jewell's - The Family Upstairs since starting it on my dog walk this afternoon.
Absolutely chuffed.
I love reading but don't have/make the time during the day and usually fall asleep after about 2 pages when I read at night but here I am, sat in bed, colouring in (something else I haven't done for years other than children's colouring books with DC) and listening away.
Sharing in case anybody else didn't realise this!

Yes I just discovered this too, almost finished Matthew Perry's autobiography.

userxx · 06/12/2023 23:04

I did not know this!

Cricketbelle · 06/12/2023 23:05

I did not know this either! Thanks for sharing 😀

IBE45 · 06/12/2023 23:12

I believe it's capped at 15 hours a month though. Don't know what you'd do if your book was 16 hours, rather annoying to have to wait for your allowance to restart.

I know she is not everyone's cup of tea Inc mine but Paris Hilton's bio is outstanding. It shook me to the core what she went through.

DinoDays · 06/12/2023 23:14

Oh. My. God!!!

I didn't not know this!! Thanks OP!!

windysocks · 06/12/2023 23:15

Thank you! I just checked and I have it too- I have been thinking about getting audible for ages - no need as I had Spotify audio books all along !

DinoDays · 06/12/2023 23:22

Although couldn't get a book on the App. Had to "buy" it from the website.

Hasn't changed.

All very confusing.

Anyway have updated App and looks like i can now download books.

I really don't understand Spotify. Was bought for me recently. Used to use Apple Music (or wherever it's called).

3smallpups · 06/12/2023 23:49

Yes do be careful
I chose a book that was just over 15 hours, had to then buy the kindle version to read the last chapter 🤣

Cryingbutstilltrying · 06/12/2023 23:55

If you have a family account it’s only available on the main users profile.
Fortunately this is me.
It started in October so not too much missed for anyone who didn’t know.
I’ve listened to a few books now, great when cleaning or crafting.

Oh. My. God!!!

I didn't not know this!! Thanks OP!!

It's a recent change, so don't beat yourself up over it!

I'm nearly finished with "Spare". Been meaning to read it, but think I've enjoyed it more on audiobook with Harry's voice.

MadamVastra · 06/12/2023 23:59

Just to let you know if you have a library card you can use Libby and BorrowBox apps for free - I got into Lisa Jewell and listened to loads of hers

alrighthen · 07/12/2023 00:42

Thank you OP!!!

EnchantedXmas · 07/12/2023 03:07

Thanks for the note re 15 hours - I hadn't realised that and will be careful not to start another until close to my renewal.

@MadamVastra I do have the Libby app but have never bothered with it because there are only 12 audiobooks available in my library (none of which I would usually choose).
Does that mean my council only has 12 available or are the rest being borrowed?
I will give BorrowBox a try tomorrow to see if that's any better.

I was also going to post about Libby & BorrowBox. I use them all the time. If you seem to be only getting a 12 book limit on Libby, I would suggest going into the library and asking them to help or explain.

Gnomegarden32 · 07/12/2023 03:16

You can top up your hours if you run out but it would get quite costly to keep doing that. I wish there was a higher subscription tier where you could get unlimited audiobook hours. Agree though the selection is great.

lovinglaughingliving · 07/12/2023 03:19

I really like it (I have audible subscription too! But burn through those quickly!) but find the books are abridged versions which upsets me x

Ooh I love a good autobiography. Thanks for the recommendation!

Omg I didn't know this. Off to look now, thanks OP

Spare is just over 15 hours long, do you have to listen over longer than a month to complete it?

CharlotteBog · 07/12/2023 08:43

I have Audible, Borrow box and now Spotify. I listen to A LOT of books!

Globules · 07/12/2023 09:25

Dunno. I'm on chapter 70 in part 3. Archie has been born. Can't be much more left!

I listen to it when I am on long drives. If I need to wait for the ending, no biggie.

silverthimble · 01/01/2024 20:38

This looks good for new releases that haven't yet reached Borrowbox etc or have a really long wait.

I've found if you check https://www.spotify.com/uk/account/audiobook-listening-time/ you can see how many hours you have left to listen in current month and when it renews. Also found if you're listening to a chapter it will let you finish if out of time but then won't let you start the next one.

ChessieFL · 02/01/2024 13:29

You can increase the reading speed which then means it takes less time so you can fit more into your 15 hours! I always increase the speed on audiobooks because it’s just too slow for me at normal speed.
