Always and enjoyable (if incredibly frustrating) visual puzzle guessing the titles of 20 books.

Who's playing this year? How are you getting on?

It always makes me giggle on these threads how more and more obvious the clues get.

JassyRadlett · 23/11/2023 14:40

😂 Yes!

"The lion is not a lion, it's newly a homophone, imagine saying lion in the accent of the cop from Line of Duty but not really like that at all, which incidentally this book title rhymes with..."

(which is basically how I finally got the bloody lion clue.)

Readingnoob · 24/11/2023 04:45

I’m stuck on

the lion
bin
I heart Lady C
Revision guides

please someone give me better clues than “word for painting of yourself” because self portrait I’m struggling with a lot.
and another word for rubbish (litter doesn’t work)

InMySpareTime · 24/11/2023 07:06

There are a lot of good clues upthread, but ignore the self portrait one and stick with the cop show/Belle translation ones.

InMySpareTime · 24/11/2023 07:07

If the bin were a paper bin that might help with your rubbish word.

InMySpareTime · 24/11/2023 07:08

Think how Sully describes Nepal in Monsters Inc.

JennyWren48 · 24/11/2023 09:28

Révision guides. What subject are thé for. Where else do you learn about this subject.

JennyWren48 · 24/11/2023 09:50

the Only one I can’t get is Christmas nightmare bobbies and anatomy of skull. I haven’t seen any threads for it so it must be easy but I’m not getting it

@Readingnoob

Litter is wrong, it is another word for rubbish/litter. What type of disposal lorry takes away your rubbish bins? It's a land of rubbish and similar to a very famous poem.

You have got one of the words for “word for painting of yourself" or a painting of a person. A picture of the couple's relationship/status.

Which famous literary character loved Lady C? Old but well known book (and film) that caused a scandal when publicly released that resulted in a court case. Not in the title but he is dressed in his working clothes.

They are science revision guides - a particular branch of science. You would usually do these first before you use the revision guides.

The lion one is rubbish in my opinion. Absolutely nothing to do with lions or animals or beasts. One of the four words in the title just sound (slightly) like "lion". A bit similar to how vial sounds like vile. Posters have given clues about a well known long running British TV series about police corruption with a character called 'H' - this show ended a couple of years ago. I would be very surprised if you lived in the UK and hadn't heard of it. The title of this series is similar to and rhymes with the book title - just subsitute the final word with another way of saying belle. As it is such an awful picture clue I cannot think of a better/clearer way to put it.

Recent prize winning novel - you will definitely have heard of it if you are a reader.

Ignore Christmas. A type of monster/evil entity + slang term for a policeman + part of the body.

JennyWren48 · 24/11/2023 10:44

Of course. And I have read it. What’s with Christmas.

Mothership4two · 24/11/2023 10:56

Guess because Krampus is a Christmas monster?

ricemegatron · 24/11/2023 13:14

hi! i have two left. the travel one and 'i love lady c' and cannot do it for the life of me. i will take any hints please please please

Mothership4two · 24/11/2023 13:24

There are lots of clues on this thread @ricemegatron

Which famous literary character loved Lady C? Old but well known book (and film) that caused a scandal when publicly released that resulted in a court case. Not in the title but he is dressed in his working clothes. Three word title that describes him.

The travel books are all about a specific area (in a famous city). One word title and was made into a film.

MamaGee83 · 24/11/2023 14:24

For the love of all that is holy, someone help me with this lion portrait 🤣 I've been stuck on it for days!

Mothership4two · 24/11/2023 14:49

This is the (amended) clue I gave another poster @MamaGee83

The lion one is rubbish in my opinion. Absolutely nothing to do with lions or animals or beasts. One of the four words in the title just sound (slightly) like "lion". A bit similar to how vial sounds like vile* if you said lion quickly. First word 'the'.

*my example is too similar! Maybe quiet and quite instead?

I hadn't heard of this prize winning book - it came out over 20 years ago.

Phonedown · 24/11/2023 14:51

@MamaGee83

The lion is a bit misleading. The actual word you are looking for sounds like lion...if you have a south of England accent.

MamaGee83 · 24/11/2023 14:56

Ha! I got it! Thanks you! You've saved my poor mind from blowing up 🤣

TheaDecker · 24/11/2023 15:09

Type in ‘Lady C’ on the Waterstones search function. Then scroll through - it should (hopefully!!) be obvious which one it is.

HennyPenny123 · 24/11/2023 18:29

Only one to get! The mythology one

I know where Helen is from, but it doesnt like the answer...

TheaDecker · 24/11/2023 19:06

@HennyPenny123

Try using the Waterstones search for where Helen is from. I used it for many of them!

Billysgrandma · 24/11/2023 22:18

I must be daft because even with all the clues still cannot get
mythology and belle /lion ones
any help appreciated but must be simple 😂😂😂

AnneShirleysNewDress · 24/11/2023 22:33

The lion one is the TV show where they tried to root out H but the last word needs to be changed to the translation of belle.

The mythology one - what are they all and where do they all come from?

Billysgrandma · 24/11/2023 22:56

Thank you soo much, got them now definitely had a mental block for those

SmudgeButt · 26/11/2023 14:45

Blinking heck that was a hard slog!!!
