Marooned in the snow stories

For the winter I want to read stories about severe winter. One easy read is Sylvester by Georgette Heyer. A humble country pub on The Bath Road, deep snow, impassable road, titled visitor with one servant.
Any suggestions of titles please? Dickens? Any of the family sagas? Cynthia Harrod-Eagles?

There is the train in the snow in Orient Express. Any other trains?

Oh, Is it a thing? I'm the same, can't get enough snow and isolation, absolutely craving them.
The Ice People, Barjavel and White Fang, J London.

Miracle in the andes by nando parrado. totally recommend

True stories try South about Shackleton's Endurance epic story, or Alone in the Ice about Douglas Mawson. Nothing cosier than reading stories of (some) survival in the Antarctic from the safety of a warm bed with a cup of tea!

These are pretty much the scariest books I have ever read. Not constant, intense scares but just so creepy!

These are both brilliant!

Rae36 · 24/10/2023 22:18

I was going to suggest Children of Green Knowe which always seems like a wintery book to me. But everyone else has gone for serious books instead.

Just read Dark Matter tonight and was going to suggest it if no one else had! Not super scary but nice and creepy

Laura Ingalls Wilder - The Long Winter

Kate Fenton's The Colours of Snow is a beautiful gentle romance with a snowstorm in it.

highlandcoo · 24/10/2023 22:52

The North Water by Ian McGuire has a long grim battle for survival in the Arctic in the second half of the book. I now know how to survive in similar circumstances although the solution is pretty drastic

winniethedoo · 24/10/2023 22:55

Snow. By John Banville. Country house murder mystery, loved it.
