Hello everyone.. DH has just reminded me of a book series I read 20 ish years ago and really enjoyed and I'm going mad trying to find it.. I've tried google and kindle searches..

Hero was a 'cad' and a coward but always came out on top.. he was British but I think it was set during the American Civil War, comedy, maybe 4 books.. actual physical books at the time although not sure that's relevant..

Any ideas please? Thank you!

First one that sprang to mind was George MacDonald Fraser's Flashman series.
